Why study fungi?
Australian fungi are comparatively minimally studied compared to their botanical and zoological equivalents, and most macrofungi on this continent do not have names (i.e. undescribed). Citizen scientists play a vital role to document fungi as professional mycology is unfortunately underresourced. Collecting and sequencing fungi enable us to begin to understand the vast biodiversity
Mission
AFDI aims to build a large scale understanding of Australian macrofungi through mass collection and sequencing efforts.
Our collections will be lodged in herbaria as permanent records and reference material for further research and formal descriptions in the future.
